CLARA Winter School on New Developments in Computational Linguistics

February 13-17, 2012, Prague, Czech Republic

The five-days CLARA Winter School on New Developments in Computational Linguistics was held in Prague on 13-17 February 2012. The course was organized by the Institute of Formal and Applied Linguistics at the Faculty of Mathematics and PhysicsCharles University in Prague.

This PhD level course was a part of the thematic training program offered by the Marie Curie ITN project Common Language Resources and their Applications (CLARA).

Goal and Focus

The goal of the CLARA Winter School was to expose young researchers to recent advances in Computational Linguistics. The CLARA Winter School addressed a wide range of topics, from   extreme computing and new developments in machine translation to dialogue systems and lexicographic tools – see the list of invited speakers and lectures annotation.

The school consisted of lectures, discussions, and hands-on training activities.

Schedule

Participants

The course was specifically aimed at early stage researchers pursuing a PhD degree but it was also open to participants at master and postdoctoral levels. Participants especially with computer science background interested in natural language processing were primarily expected. Active experience with the Moses System was welcome.

Candidates who are affiliated with CLARA through one of its member institutions were given priority, though also external national and international candidates were welcome.

ECTS credits

The early stage researchers involved in the CLARA project gained 5 ECTS credits for an active participation in the CLARA Winter School.
